Bookseller Notes

A posthumous publication; the author had written the 1921 novel 'Way of Revelation' based on his wartime experiences. The original manuscript leaf here, written in pencil on both sides of a ruled sheet, comprises notes of 'Points to be verified' regarding the content - an interesting insight into his working process.Ewart had established himself as a rural writer, and an expert on poultry, before the War - in which he enlisted with the Scots Guards, despite bad eyesight and general poor health. Ewart died in Mexico, where he had travelled to stay with his army-friend, the author Stephen Graham, to recuperate from continued poor health, killed by a stray bullet during New Year celebrations.
