Inscribed by the author on the flyleaf: 'Mr George Hopkinson, from Rosamond Langbridge, Sept. 23rd 1932'. Laid in is a contemporary 2pp. autograph letter to the same from Langbridge's husband, the novelist and poet J.S. Fletcher (his 'Collected Verse' advertised to the rear of the dustjacket, thanking Hopkinson for his 'very kind letter', declaring that 'you make me blush, for I am a very modest man', and enclosing 'my wife's book, duly autographed'. The recipient was a Yorkshire textile merchant, and a patron of the arts in the West Riding region and Fletcher continues in reference to a recent visit to the county - complaining that his intention of staying for a few weeks was curtailed to four days because 'the weather was so bad'.Langbridge was better-known as a novelist - this is her only book of poems, and scarce. The verse draws heavily, in theme and diction, from her Irish background.
