Bookseller Notes

Scarce. The author's final novel, notable for announcing not only the author's death 'at a tragically early age' (in 1955), but also his identity as the author of two novels, 'The Heart in Exile' and 'The Troubled Midnight' (both notable for their foregrounding of gay characters), published under the name 'Rodney Garland'. It also carries the praise of Andr Gide for his work.Adam de Hegedus was a Hungarian migr resident in Britain since the 1930s; the present work is compared by the publisher to Evelyn Waugh - 'set against the amusingly erratic background of High Hungarian circles in London [...] a world of diplomats, journalists, principal private secretaries, political hostesses and the like'.
