Preedy, 1932'.Marjorie Bowen, itself a nom-de-plume for Margaret Gabrielle Vere Campbell) was a prolific author, adopting masculine identities (another was Joseph Shearing) in order to distinguish her work in different genres.This novel, scarce in any form, presents a 'baroque hero', whose 'fine cavalier's career' plays out against a background of 'France (Paris always), Italy, Vienna, Turkey, and yet of no country - a phantasmagoria' (Author's Foreword).
