Bookseller Notes
Inscribed by the author on the flyleaf: 'To Peter Russell from F.T. Prince. March, 1955'. The recipient was a poet associated with Ezra Pound in his latter years. The title-poem is Prince's best-known, anthologised regularly in poems of the Second World War; despite its subsequent celebration, the collection was rejected by Eliot at Faber, who had published Prince's debut. The poet may have regarded his new home as inauspicious, given the number of errors he has corrected on the front flap, but - aside from a small typo in 'Apollo and the Sibyl' - the clumsiness is kept away from the text.
