Bookseller Notes
Inscribed by both Jean Cocteau and his 'Bte', Jean Marais, to actress Viviane Romance: on the half-title, the author-director presents this copy ' Viviane, vritable fe, souvenir de son ami Jean * 1946'; Marais's inscription is at the head of the image of him in character opposite p. 192, and has unfortunately been a little cropped by the binder, who must not have known it was there, though it remains fully legible 'Pour Viviane, chez qui j'ai eu l'ide de devenir une bte son ami Jean Marais'. The trimming affects the top of the first four words and the last letter of 'Marais'.Laid in is the card for the restaurant La Mediterrane on the Place de l'Odon, its logo designed by Cocteau and used as the basis for the design to the upper board by Brmond, alongside her quote for this binding.[With:] The programme for the film's initial release laid in; a stapled booklet in very good condition.
