Bookseller Notes
Inscribed with profound regret by Kay Boyle at the head of her contribution.A volume commemorating men of Tarrytown, NY, killed in the War - these written by authors including Fannie Hurst, John Hersey, William Rose Bent, Helen MacInnes, Margaret Widdemer, and Kay Boyle, who writes at the head of her tribute to John Rizzi that 'I disown this piece completely I can never forgive my arrogance in having written thus to the bereaved Kay B'. Rizzi was, she writes, a 'tall, gay blondheaded American boy born of Italian parents', who 'died at the age of twenty-two from wounds received in the battle of Sicily on August 10, 1943'. Boyle, whom the War had driven back from France to the US, would seem to be directing her contrition at the general tenor of her piece, and the collection as a whole, rather than the particulars.
