This charming miniature Bible was first published by William Harris in 1771, later reprinted in 1775 and 1778 with minor alterations. It was the template for all the subsequent editions published by Elizabeth Newbery (widow of the nephew of the pioneering children's book publisher John Newbery). The Harris editions are of a higher standard of production, and harder to find in good condition than those with the Newbery imprint.
2 engraved titles and 14 engraved plates; very good; pp. 256; 16mo in 8s (all editions come either in 16s or 8); contemporary red morocco, inlays of black with with cross and christogram JHS in gilt, within gilt sun-tooling, spine gilt with dove stamp in compartments, gilt edges, marbled endpapers.
