Read at a session of l'Acadmie des inscriptions et belles-lettres in 1806, the text was not published until 1822; this is possibly the author's own MS. An overview of the Hapsburg Empire, in terms of statistics (population, revenues, &c). Mentelle is hard on his own profession ('cette science svre'), but holds it up as the necessary basis for history and geography.
