Assoziation und Reproduktion (bzw. Das Gedachtnis) war somit als umbildender Faktor zur Erklarung sprachlicher Vor gange und Veranderungen mit in Rechnung gezogen worden doch konnte diese Erklarung nurmehr als eine geistreiche, wenn zwar hochst wahrscheinliche Hypothese gelten; bewiesen aber war sie keineswegs. War nun einmal der Anfang gegluckt, das psychologische Experiment fur sprachwissenschaftliche Fragen dienstbar zu machen, so lag es nicht mehr mehr allzu ferne, auch fur diese Hypothese eine exakte experimentelle Grundlage zu suchen.
