Publisher's Synopsis
Are young people voting again in the UK? The surge of young votes in the General Election of 2017 challenges our assumptions that young people are at best alienated, and at worst apathetic, towards the institutions and processes of British democracy. This book argues that following the snap election of 2017, the EU Referendum and the Scottish 'Indyref', the tendency of young people to abstain may (or may not) be shifting, after two decades in which non-voting has been the majority choice of the young in the UK. The book explores the role of the vote in the young political toolbox in the twenty-first century. It makes the case that if we want young voters back, young people need more than a voice in democracy. They need power.
