The way in which we have been socialized is largely the cause of women abuse and the shame associated with it, together with the fact that it is seen as a private family problem in which others should not become involved. The emotional and psychological effects of abuse last long after the bruises and scars have faded, and because they are hidden, they take far longer to heal. There is no typical abused woman. Women from different cultures, at all levels of education, from all income groups with many different personality types may find themselves in an abusive situation. There are things women can do to prevent abuse, to break free from being abused and to put an end to abuse for the future. Women abuse is a crime and no woman should be subjected to it, or expected to accept it. This book examines all aspects of abuse and how women can empower themselves against it.
