Publisher's Synopsis
Yorkists and Tudors brings together a collection of illustrated materials covering social and cultural issues as well as political ones. Intimate letters of Queens of England, reports and reminiscences of foreign ambassadors and extracts from the poetry of Spenser and the plays of Shakespeare collectively provide a political and cultural perspective of this period. Some of the documents are reproduced in the original spelling. The book also contains a choice of documents relating to such crucial issues as the Wars of the Roses, the New Monarchy and the Mid-Tudor Crisis.;A commentary on the sources helps the reader to discriminate between documents of different types, and in particular to judge the reliablity of materials as historical evidence. Challenging questions at the end of each thematic section provide a stimulus for closer study of the documents.
