Publisher's Synopsis
XUAN KICH is not only a martial art form, but a valuable learning program focused on strategy. Each chapter of this book is designed to support both practical training and theoretical principles.
Xuan Kich is an important quyen (martial art form or kata) created in Canada by Grand-Master Charles Phan Hoang in 2023, at the age of 87, as a means to pass on a crucial part of his teachings to a new generation of martial artists, strategists, and beyond. STRATEGY refers to the overall plan in a fight. It takes into account the fighter's style, strengths, weaknesses, the opponent's abilities, the environment, and the ultimate goal of the fight. Strategy is about determining the most efficient and effective way to win. TACTIC, while closely related to strategy, is different. Tactics are the specific actions, techniques, and maneuvers used during a fight to implement the overall strategy. They are short-term and reactive, often adjusting in response to what is happening in the moment. The teaching methodology of this book is built around creating a connection between physical movements -the actions to be trained and the guiding principles that reflect the knowledge to be mastered. It is important to understand that while a given movement in an exercise helps to illustrate an abstract principle, the principle does not necessarily explain how the movement should be executed.
For example, in one exercise, raising both hands toward the sky might represent the principle "Observe widely before planning a strategy." However, this principle doesn't dictate the technical details of how to raise your hands. Principles in this book have far-reaching applications in life, extending well beyond the realm of combat. In many ways, this book deals more with thought and philosophy than physical movement, though, of course, the movements form the foundation of the teachings. Before diving into the development of the Xuan-Kich 18 Strategies, the first three chapters explore three fundamental areas: The Way of Action, The Force of Inner Energy, and The Power of Stillness. These chapters also introduce the strategies of the Tiger, the Eagle, and the Bamboo. From the fourth chapter onward, you will embark on a long and fascinating journey of learning. A path rich in action, history, principles, and strategies lies ahead, waiting for you to explore.
