The chief purpose of this book is to furnish alternative exercises in composition and conversation similar in character to those of the author's German Composition. It seemed wise not to depart, in this new book, from a method which has met with the enthusiastic approval of teachers throughout the country. At the same time a number of new features suggested by recent advances in modern language teaching have been incorporated.
