Publisher's Synopsis
Recent studies have drawn attention to the possibility that there were too many interventions during childbirth, and to anecdotal evidence of variations in the rates of these interventions. At the request of UK Health Ministers, the Committee's studies were undertaken to establish some baseline data of the rates of interventions and procedures. Their report provides a description of the clinical protocols for normal labour and of the management of women having their first child (primigravidae) in NHS hospitals. The Government's Response to the Committee's recommendations are published with this report.
