The whole tribe of Levi were set apart, by the command of God, aatbe ministers of religion. Put of this tribe, the house of Aaron were appointed to offer sacrifices, and to minister in holy things at the altar. Some of their brethren of the other families of Levites were assigned them as assistants in these services. But those not immediately en gaged in these services, resided in different parts of the country, and officiated as public instructors.
