Publisher's Synopsis
This volume comprises contributions from a symposium on academic writing in languages other than English which took place in October 2004 at the University of Klagenfurt in Carinthia, Austria. The symposium aimed at providing a scholarly forum for researchers who investigate non-English academic writing under a linguistic perspective. The articles of the volume deal with linguistic and communicative features of scholarly texts in various European languages. The papers in part 1 scrutinize differences between academic and linguistic cultures under a contrastive rhetoric perspective, whereas the papers in part 2 deal with features of students' texts under the perspective of writing pedagogy. The languages which are investigated are German, Italian, Polish, Russian, Slovene, and Czech."
