Publisher's Synopsis
The importance of patient education in ensuring the best possible prognosis and quality of life for diabetic patients is now well recognised. To be fully effective, however, methods must be established for assessing patients' progress and evaluating their level of understanding.;This pair of programs incorporates groups of multiple-choice questions applicable either to insulin-dependent or non-insulin- dependent patients. Answers to questions are provided on-screen, together with explanatory statements, so that the patient understands the reason why his or her answer was correct or incorrect. The subjects covered in the programs embrace general knowledge of diabetes, insulin regimes, urine and blood glucose monitoring, management of diabetes and its complications, diet and foot care.;With an interfaced printer, completion of the questionnaire is followed by individualised corrective feedback, together with tabulated analysis of knowledge-area scores for record purposes. This knowledge-assessment program enables the diabetic clinic or teaching unit to provide individual "tuition", and can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of educational strategies, to promote discussion groups, and to train medical and nursing staff.
