But when his rise to the title stumbles into controversy, the empress orders him to prove his worthiness. She sends him on a mission to Laray to find and defeat Fenix the Rascal, a famed outlaw whose possible exploits include initiating riots, stealing national treasures, and murder.
Laray is not as Jerick expects, nor the Dyanne occupying the nation helpful in his search for Fenix. His efforts to find the Rascal are thwarted by a wayward sword, obnoxious rumors, greedy bounty hunters, and unwilling prey. When an evil emerges the Laraine have turned their world upside down to avoid, Jerick must decide between completing his mission or acting like the champion he hopes to one day be. A choice that could doom his new friends, and himself.
