Shayna Harper is no stranger to the problems men can cause, so when she moves into a new apartment and Trey Monroe fails to respond in a timely manner to her maintenance concerns, it isn't anything unusual. What is unusual is her reaction: not only forgiving him but letting her guard down enough to start dating him.
Trey isn't looking for another girlfriend, but when he meets the pretty girl who called about problems in her apartment, he uses free hockey tickets from his best friend to score a date with her, not expecting it to turn into anything serious. When it does, even he doesn't realize the long-term impact.
A relationship neither of them is looking for balloons around them, but the "hook-up high" wears off quickly, and Shayna finds that Trey's problems with his kids and his ex-wife become her own. A routine doctor's appointment reveals she's pregnant, however, and the path Shayna thinks she's on suddenly seems quite different, with her normally sharp sense of direction dulled by the awesome responsibility and decisions facing her.
