Publisher's Synopsis
My mother, Nechama Gerchuk, may she rest in peace, an Israeli author and painter, was born in Haifa on August 2, 1929. She was the daughter of pioneer immigrants, who were among those who had built the Hebrew city of Haifa. Many and varied were her talents, painting, sculpture and some more... but reading and writing were her big passion. In 1970, her first book "What a Devil" was published by Masada Publishing House as part of a series of masterpiece books for the youth under the editing of Dr Uriel Ofek, may his memory be blessed.
In her books, my mother aspired to educate the young generation with values and morals in an optimistic spirit seasoned with subtle humour.
"This original story describes with lots of humour, where reality and imagination blend in a mixed manner, the story of a special girl, who lived in Haifa during tense and bloody events. Her name was Mirele, but everyone called her "what a devil". Why and wherefore? You will find this out after reading the book, illustrated by the expressive paintings of the writer from the city of the Carmel".
