Publisher's Synopsis
God has a plan for all of our lives. One part of the plan is to draw us to himself. The other part is to use us to meet the needs of others. Often the thing that keeps us from experiencing God's plan is the need to change. Change is seldom easy and taking a risk in doing what God has given us to do requires faith. Acting in faith can be a frightening experience. The story of the siege of Samaria in 2 Kings 7 provides an excellent illustration of what happens when faced with desperation. Four lepers lay outside the city walls of Samaria. They were not allowed inside the city because of their disease. Their situation was hopeless. The four reached a significant conclusion about their situation. If they remained where they were they would die. If they went into the city they would die. If they surrendered to the Arameans they would probably die, but there was a small chance the Arameans might have mercy on them. The four decided they had nothing to lose and went to the Aramean camp. Little did they know that God intervened and scattered the Arameans. The four found food and treasure along with other supplies left behind by the fleeing Arameans. God used four disqualified and rejected men to bring salvation to his people. We are faced with the same question at times. What do we have to lose? God may be drawing us to himself with a spiritual hunger nothing else will quench. God may be stirring within us the desire to minister to others. What do we have to lose? The booklet presents an adapted version of the recent message at New Covenant Christian Fellowship. The point is that God has something for you and me to do today. Do not think large scale. Think small scale because God typically starts small when his children are beginning to partner with him in advancing the kingdom. If we are faithful with one opportunity to touch the desperation in others, God will give us two. #Christian service #Matthew Barnett #Elisha #Old Testament studies #Christian love #biblical studies
