Publisher's Synopsis
The Bill makes provision for Northern Ireland corresponding to provision contained in the Welfare Reform Act 2012 (c. 5). It is part of the ongoing process of welfare reform and modernisation of the benefit system. The major proposal for reform is the introduction of a new benefit, to be known as universal credit, which will replace existing in and out of work benefits. The Bill also makes provision for a new benefit, personal independence payment, which will replace the existing disability. living allowance.
