Publisher's Synopsis
Selected Proceedings of Asian Waterqual 2003, the IWA Asia-Pacific Regional Conference, held in Bangkok, Thailand, 19-23 October 2003. In many of Asia's rapidly developing countries with their focus on economic and industrial development there has been a marked deterioration in the quality of natural water resources. This poses significant challenges that must be tackled by concerted improvements in water resources management, wastewater treatment and the protection and remediation of the water environment. While some of these issues are well on the way to solution, many issues - both managerial and technological - still require urgent attention. These challenges motivated five hundred delegates from 29 countries to attend Asian Waterqual 2003, with its large programme of oral and poster presentations. Following a rigorous peer review 28 of the very best papers presented have been selected for these proceedings. They cover the topics of wastewater and sludge treatment and management, industrial wastewaters, innovative treatments, instrumentation, drinking water, and environmental remediation, and will prove highly valuable for research scientists and environmental engineers and managers both in the Asian region and the rest of the world.
