The President and his wife receive all calls and return none.
The President gives during the season three State dinners, one in honor of the Cabinet. One to the Diplomatic Corps and one to the Supreme Court.
The President gives four official or card receptions and one public even ing reception. At these receptions his wife and the ladies of the Cabinet assist in line.
The President does not accept invitations to dinners outside of the Cabinet circle.
An invitation to a State dinner at the White House is supposed to be a command, and not declined unless in case of death or illness in one's family.
Senators' wives make all first calls on the Wife of the President; Wife of the vice-president; Wife of the Chief Justice; Wives of the Associate Justices Wives of the Ambassadors.
The wives of the Senators call upon each other according to the service of their husbands the wife of the newly elected Senator making all first calls.
Cabinet wives make all first calls on the Wife of the President; Wife of the vice-president Wife of the Chief Justice Wives of the Associate Justices Wives of the Ambassadors; Wives of the Senators.
Each member of the Cabinet entertains the President and his wife, also the Cabinet, at dinner once during the season.
