Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Wah-to-Yah, and the Taos Trail, or Prairie Travel and Scalp Dances: With a Look at Los Rancheros From Muleback and the Rocky Mountain Campfire

In February, 1846, being then in my seventeenth year, I tossed away schoolbooks, and glided down the Missis sippi River, and along the Mexican Gulf, to Texas; and, shortly after, back to the Louisiana coast, where I stayed until the middle of May, visiting friends, riding horses, and shooting alligators, duck, and rail, from the bow of a long canoe in the cypress swamps.
