Publisher's Synopsis
This series of works on wind energy provides information on research and development currently being undertaken by European institutions under technological programmes sponsored by the Commission of the European Communities. The first volume contains reports from nearly 50 participating centres and provides a comprehensive and detailed overview of progress in wind energy conversion and utilization, and discusses the many challenges that face wind technology today. The broad range of topics covered in this volume includes hardware projects such as the development of MW-size wind turbines, provides criteria for the design of wind turbines and examines materials for their manufacture. Other papers report on generic projects such as the European wind atlas, and examine wake effects, gust measurements and an investigation into horizontal-axis wind turbine aerodynamics. A useful reference for all researchers, contractors and policy makers worldwide with an interest in wind energy.
