Publisher's Synopsis
Harry Westerman spent much of the First World War as a horsedriver for the Royal Field Artillery, driving teams of horses to supply ammunition to gun batteries on the front line. War Record is a diary of his experiences, compiled in 1923 directly from notes he kept in the field. He tells a clear and extraordinary story of supplying gun batteries in the mud and chaos, playing piano in the officers' mess, writing letters home, close calls and the many colleagues that are killed or wounded. Like many men, Harry did not speak much about his experiences, so we are privileged to hear him speak to us now, through this, his War Record. Harry Westerman
