The book provides a scholarly investigation of the primary moral philosophical and foreign policy issues involved in a post 9/11 environment in which the United States has pursued a policy of preventive war and a less than optimal response to Islamist terrorism. This work represents the culmination of several years' research and analysis by the author in the realm of US foreign policy and provides a reasoned critique of the "Bush Doctrine" including offensive wars of aggression.
