Volume VII: God's Judgments
This seventh book in the series Why Is Life So Hard? explores the wisdom and beauty of God's judgments as told in Psalm 119. This lengthy poem highlights the many benefits from what God has made known about life, about his world. To write it, the psalmist used different words to capture truth. "Judgment" is a harsh word, conveying condemnation and punishment, although its root means to set something in an upright position. The Bible uses it specifically to refer to leading and governing. Judicial actions such as sentencing criminals and vindicating wrongs are the basis of government. Judgments are verdicts made by judges, and we do well to remember that when this life closes on us, we will all stand before a judgment seat occupied by the Eternal Judge. Our troubles in life teach us this. And because justice is the foundation of judgment, we have every reason to trust that our rights and privileges are guarded, no matter the storm.
