Publisher's Synopsis
Volume I: God's Law
This first book in the series Why Is Life So Hard? explores the wisdom and beauty of God's law as seen in Psalm 119. This magnificent poem presents the benefits of all that God has made known about life, about his world. To do so, the psalmist used different words to capture truth. The root of "law" is to flow or issue straight from a source, like an arrow. It carries the sense of pointing, which implies showing, just what teaches and instructs. Biblical Jewish law shows God's will to his people, but the word first appears in Scripture when God commended Abraham for surrendering everything to him. This was the moment God let go of any hesitation about keeping his covenant with Abraham. In the same way, our submission to God's demands sets us up to receive covenant-size blessings in this life.
