Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Vingut's Ollendorff's New Method of Learning to Read, Write, and Speak the Spanish Language: Giving a Figured Pronunciation of the Spanish Words; With an Appendix, Embracing a Recapitulation of the Rules Given in the Preceding Lessons, a Treatise on the Spanish Verbs, and Other Valuable Information
Our principal object in preparing this work, is to promote and generalize the instruction of the Spanish language, so useful and so necessary to all, but more especially to an American, since it is the most generally spoken in this vast continent.
It is with that object that we have adapted the present work not only to the use of teachers, but also for self-instruction, by means of giving the pronunciation of the Spanish words for those persons who, from peculiar circumstances, may be obliged to study without the assistance of a teacher; for which purpose we publish in a separate volume a Key to the Exercises, to be compared with the translation of the learner. But at the same time we would advise them not to avoid the assistance of a teacher if it could be conveniently obtained, or at least to consult one occasionaly, for it would prove of great advantage. Since it would give the learner a more accurate and correct pronunciation; besides, the explanation of the many questions and doubts which must necessarily occur in the course of his studies.
