Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Vindications of Patriots of the American Revolution
Since this discussion took place in a city less than a hundred miles from Hartford, it is but natural to suspect that the process known as the contagion of thought may have had something to do with it, and that the germs of this contagion may be traced to a chapter on the Loyalists in Professor Ferguson's Essays in American History. I use the word contagion in a thoroughly Pickwickian sense, fully aware that there may be such a thing as wholesome contagion, though not fully convinced that the in?uence in question should be classed as such.
