Excerpt from Vindication of the Character and Writings of the Honourable Emanuel Swedenborg, Against the Slanders and Misrepresentations of the Rev. J. G. Pike, of Derby: Including a Refutation of the False Reports Propagated by the Late Rev. John Wesley, Respecting the Same Pious and Illustrations Author; With Brief Remarks on the Rash Censure Pronounced on Baron Swedenborg and His Writings by the Evangelical Magazine
Towards the close of the work is introduced a scriptural view of the rise, progress, and future perfection of the New Church; which is followed by a few remarks on the rash censure pronounced on Baron Swedenborg and his writings by the Edi tors of the Evangelical Magazine, who, assuming that the'report made of them by Mr. Pike may be depended upon for it's truth and accuracy, have not only condemned what they never took the pains to read and understand for themselves, but have charged the members of the New Church with being both Sabellians and Socinians. That they do not, however, come within the description of either of those denominations, will be at once seen by comparing their peculiar tenets with the doctrines taught by Emanuel Swedenborg.
