Publisher's Synopsis

Documentary exploring life on one of the most remote settlements in the world. Intrigued by Niaqornat while travelling with her family, Sarah Gavron decided that she would return to the village and document the lives of its 59 residents. Completely isolated and reachable only by air, Niaqornat sits on the Western Coast of Greenland and is hugely dependent on fishing and hunting as a means of sustaining life. Lars, a local 16-year-old, dreams of escape and spends much of his time socialising on the internet with friends from all over the world. The director focuses on the reasons for his dissatisfaction, but also acknowledges the opposite end of the spectrum through his father who is a huntsman and deeply ingrained in village tradition. She also speaks to Ilannguaq, who moved to Niaqornat after meeting his partner online. He explains how he is an asset to the community because of his ability to speak Danish and English - a skill which has seen him become the local tourist guide.
