Two years ago I stated, in the preface to Rose white Youth, that I was not intending to publish a book of verse; because I thought - and still think - that there is quite enough mediocre verse already in print. But I have been driven to making a small collection of my verses, because I found that several which had been published without my name, or even in my books if the authorship were not expressly stated, had been quoted in other publica tions, and unavoidably attributed to some other authorship than my own.
