Applied social research is a resource as yet largely untapped by the very organizations that could most benefit from it. In order to discover the ways in which research can best be brought into social programmes, the author went directly to organizations that have made effective use of research -- in this case British Social Services departments -- which are uniquely appropriate for this kind of study as they are staffed with researchers as well as administrators.
