Insects of the family Scarabaeidae (scarabs) are important pests infesting many crops around the world. At the immature larval stage they feed on plant roots, while the adults feed on leaves and fruit. These pests have traditionally been controlled by chemical pesticides but many of these are now being withdrawn from the market for environmental reasons, leaving an urgent need for alternative controls such as pathogens. The contributors list is representive of the worldwide problems caused by the Scarabaeidae family of insects.
