Publisher's Synopsis
By 2030 more than 60 per cent of all people will live in cities, and most of this growth will occur in developing countries, where financial resources and the capacity needed to cope with this challenge are limited. In this context, there is a clear need for innovative governance approaches that deal with the complexities of urban sustainability issues while reflecting the cultural diversity of today's large cities. This volume brings together an international, multidisciplinary group of researchers in urban affairs, policy makers, and other urban stakeholders from at least ten large world cities in examining challenges and opportunities for urban sustainability around the world.
