Publisher's Synopsis
"Understanding Information" is concerned with different ways of understanding the emerging information economy. The first section focuses on the information commodity, exploring the nature and properties of information markets and businesses. In the second section the information economy is analyzed in terms of the growth of new information and communication technologies (ICTs) and in the context of technological tranformation and revolution. The third section takes up a less familiar issue, that of the implications of ICTs for spatial organization and spatial relations. The agenda here concerns the significance of ICTs in the changing geography of accumulation, and the implications for urban and regional development.
