Lawyers are officers of the Court and have special duties not only to their clients but also for the administration of justice. Lawyers are expected to be exemplary citizens in both their professional and personal conduct. The Rules of Professional Conduct are Rules of reason and should be interpreted with reference to the purpose of legal representation and law. This text highlights some of the important Rules lawyers must understand and uphold and provides insight of the application of these Rules by discussing actual cases of the Florida Supreme Court interpreting the Rules and providing sanctions for lawyer misconduct.
