A few months have passed since Beatrice solved the crime that shocked the small county of Swampshire, but her thirst for mystery is unslaked. Her life in London with the irritating Miss Bolton, the chaperone charged with finding her a husband, is a blur of summer dances and social introductions, interspersed with fleeting escapades at the new detective agency she founded with the handsome and intelligent Inspector Vivek Drake.
