Publisher's Synopsis

This is a collection of three works of Roy Donnell, a long-time local history researcher and writer who was a civic-minded citizen of Cole Camp, Missouri during a large part of the 20th Century. "Uncle Ki" was considered by Roy to be his best work, telling the story of an emancipated slave who would later become a well-liked prominent citizen of the community.

"The Highway Patrol" is the result of a 1976 interview with then-retired Highway Patrol Captain Chester R. Oliver, who told about the exploits of his early years with the Patrol as part of the original class of 55 recruits.

"The Home Guard" is an account of the casualties and losses suffered by members of the Guard during the three month period around the notorious Battle of Cole Camp during the Civil War.

An interesting read on many levels.
