The Department of State has a longstanding history and commitment to sharing information with the public about the diplomatic work that we conduct domestically and overseas. The ways in which they communicate internally, with other agencies and organizations, and to the public have changed significantly with the development of new technologies and social media, and they will undoubtedly continue to change as further advances in communication are discovered. The several components of the Open Government Initiative have brought further momentum to the Department of State's ongoing efforts to increase transparency and provide information to the public. This initiative has allowed them to review how they can improve access to information. This plan was developed by a team of employees led by the Department of State's Chief Information Officer. The Open Government team is composed of employees from throughout the Department of State who are working vigorously and enthusiastically to provide an unprecedented level of access to operations within and information generated by the Department of State.
