Publisher's Synopsis

He leaves Hanover Hospital, and begins his journey to the Harz Mountains. Why he has to go back there, he's not sure, but he knows he must go; maybe it is his destiny. On the way he meets old friends, who ask him to stay, but no, he must go on.

Eventually he finds Nina again, whose love is strong, but is it strong enough for them both, because he knows he will have no peace, until he confronts his ghosts? He believes they are waiting for him, in those mountains of East Germany. So he must find a way into those forbidding mountains, over the East/West border. But he regrets it when he does, because he is brought face to face with his demons, even though, in the process, he saves refugees from the East, who are seeking freedom in the West. Then Anna returns. Why, at that moment? His depression follows him all the way from the beginning, and foolishly, he still refuses help from his friends. What else is there that lingers, just out of reach of his troubled mind?
