Publisher's Synopsis
This work concentrates on the tropes ans sequences of the "Liber Magistri" (codex 65 in the Biblioteca Capitolare in Piacenza), a complex manuscript unique in its genre. It contains the entire repertory of chants for the episcopal liturgy in the middle of the 12th century. It is the exemplar and "copia maestro" compiled and edited under the responsibility of "magister scholarum" Johannes Maiorscola in 1142. This analysis investigates the literary aspects, liturgical function and theological contents of the troper-sequentiary in order to identify the compiler's possible reasons for composing his selection of items.
