Its gentile, playful rhymes help teach children food and animal names as the reader has to guess who ate each food from the picnic. On each page, Tressa and Dan wonder who ate their food. "Hey Dan, who ate the grapes?" As we turn the page, we meet a new animal in an amusing setting with evidence of the missing food. "The Apes at the Grapes." This pattern is repeated over and over, helping the pre-reader learn the food and animal names.
There are also the games , "Find the Poor Zoo Keeper" and "Find his Missing Hat" on the left hand pages to engage the young audience beyond the story line.
While this story is written for the young child, with the good-natured illustrations and games embedded within, this engaging book is attractive to older children and their adult friends. Simply put, this book is FUN for the reader and the pre-reader!
