Publisher's Synopsis
Held under the auspices of the International Society for Interaction of Mechanics and Mathematics, the 8th symposium on "Trends in Applications of Mathematics to Mechanics" held in Austria at Hollabrun from August 13-18, 1989 covered such topics as numerical methods in non-linear continuum mechanics, material science and thermodynamic aspects of continuum mechanics, dynamical systems and bifurcation, and the asymptotic theory of viscous flow. The symposium also discussed the significant interactions of mathematics and mechanics.;This selection of papers presented at the conference reflects the prnicipal aims of the society: to bring together experts in mathematcis and mechanics; to introduce new powerful mathematical methods to mechanics and related science; and to present new stimulating problems to mathematcis for further reserch.
