The gross misrepresentations of some recent travellers in the United States, are sufficient to render our citizens cautious in the reception of travellers' stories; and it would be no matter of surprise to me, if some of the pictures I have drawn of the state of society in the Ecuador, should be thought exaggerated.
Nothing will perhaps excite more astonishment in us, who are accustomed to see in our clergy the patterns of a correct life.
